The teaser opens with Elsa (Idina Menzel), now in a pantsuit akin to the Broadway production and her hair in a ponytail, using her powers to run through some waves (can we please appreciate the amazing animation on the water?) and failing both times to cross. We don't know what she's trying to get to, but could it be a training montage or possibly investigating something to do with her past (remember that her parents died at sea).
After that clip, the rest of the teaser is snippets indicating plot points as mysterious symbols appear in Arendelle as Anna (Kristen Bell) runs outside shocked. We also get to see her rocking an amazing new hairdo later jumping off some rocks, Elsa saving Olaf (Josh Gad) from a pink ring of fire, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) riding Sven while other reindeer follow them, and the part which intrigued me the most, a woman appearing to control autumn leaves and meeting a blonde guy. I'm assuming she'll be voiced by the rumoured Evan Rachel Wood, and is part of a group of people with seasonal related powers like Elsa. Given that the teased summary mentioned Elsa searching for the origins of her powers, maybe she could join the group to help them (and maybe be a love interest for Elsa after years of the Twitter hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend which Idina Menzel also endorsed)...?
And we finish on the most epic sweeping shots as the group watches the autumn filled landscape before one of the leaves floats through the film's logo.
Oh yeah, and Anna wields Kristoff's sword at a mysterious figure behind them!
Definitely taking a darker tone compared to the first film, I can't wait to see Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck expand the world and characters. With 8 songs confirmed by Bobby and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, here's hoping they'll reflect the more mature and epic tone while still having that Broadway edge. Plus, the animation looks stunning with the autumn themed colour palette, vast improvement on the hair and textures and the backgrounds look majestic. Given that Frozen was set in summer, Frozen Fever in spring and Olaf's Frozen Adventure in winter, I think it's about time autumn was given some appreciation in the franchise.
Shortly after the teaser was released, Josh Gad tweeted this poster, stating there are plot hints if you look closer. I'm going to assume my theory's right as if you look at the four main branches, each one has a different symbol identical to the ones Anna sees in Arendelle.
Frozen 2 will be released on Novemeber 22nd 2019
